Kerr County's COVID-19 death toll rose by three people on Saturday when the Texas Department of State Health Services reported two fatalities on Jan. 14 and a third on Jan. 18.
DSHS says seven people have now died from COVID-19 in January. None of those deaths appear to have occurred at Peterson Regional Medical Center.
When it comes to Kerr County, DSHS estimated 94 new cases on Saturday. It's unclear if there's a testing agreement between Peterson Health's results and the DSHS estimates. The state's number suggests a two-day surge of more than 200 new Kerr County cases.
The DSHS reported death toll stands at 150, but The Lead doesn't believe that number is accurate because it does not count deaths at Peterson Regional Medical Center and other local facilities. The actual death toll is more than 200.
Across the state, the virus continued its rampage, filling up hospital beds, with more than 13,300 people admitted on Friday. The number of children admitted fell to more than 470.
In one accessible metric measuring impact on the workforce, the Kerrville State Hospital reported at least 35 employees were positive or probable for the virus on Friday. None of the hospital's 168 patients have tested positive. Nearly a third of the patients have contracted the virus, killing three.
