The HBO limited television series "Love and Death," which chronicles an infamous Texas killing from the 1980s, is shooting scenes in Kerrville, including on Wednesday at Inn of the Hills.
The series stars Elizabeth Olsen (The Avengers) and is written by David E. Kelley and produced by Nicole Kidman.
The series tells the story of Candy Montgomery who found not guilty in the ax slaying of her friend, Betty Gore, in 1980. Montgomery was having an affair with Gore's husband at the time of the killing. In court, Montgomery said she was acting in self defense when Gore angrily confronted her about the affair. Gore was struck 41 times with an axe. A jury found Montgomery not guilty of the crime.
The movie is set in the Dallas area of the late 1970s and 1980. So, Inn of the Hills was festooned with green screens and classic cars from that period. The camera crew was setting up on Tuesday morning for a day of shooting. The production completely jammed up the parking lots of Inn of the Hills, spilling out onto Guadalupe Street and Harper Road.
While this series is set to debut later next year, a competing version called "Candy" starring Elizabeth Moss is being produced by Hulu. A previous television movie about the case was released in 1990, and won Barbara Hershey an Emmy for best actress in a television miniseries for her portrayal of a character based on Candy Montgomery.
