BREAKING NEWS: Voelkel withdraws from Kerrville mayoral race

That leaves Judy Eychner and Brett Bates to seek the mayor's seat on the City Council.

The race for mayor of Kerrville is now a two-person race after former City Councilman Vince Voelkel withdrew.

The city announced Voelkel's decision on Thursday afternoon. That leaves Place 3 City Councilwoman Judy Eychner and Brett Bates, who is suing the city in federal court, as the lone candidates battling to replace Mayor Bill Blackburn, who is not seeking re-election.

Voelkel previously served one term on the Kerrville City Council and is a land surveyor.
