Errors haunt Schreiner Baseball in 12-1 loss to Centenary

The Mountaineers stumble in key SCAC matchup on Friday; head for doubleheader finale on Saturday.

After playing error-free baseball last weekend, Schreiner University kicked the ball around four times, falling 12-1 to visiting Centenary University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup Friday in Kerrville.

The Gents scored nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings to blow the game open. They also played great defense against the Mountaineers.

Centenary snapped a two-game losing streak, while the loss snapped Schreiner's two-game-winning streak. After scoring 45 runs in two games last weekend, Schreiner's offense stalled against Centenary.

The Mountaineers' only run came from a second-inning solo home run by Isaiah Hernandez. It was Hernandez's third home run of the season.

Centenary chased Schreiner starter Apollo Cassimatis with 10 hits and eight runs in four and one-third innings of work.

The loss drops Schreiner to 11-11 overall and 3-4 in the SCAC. The two teams meet again at noon on Saturday for a series-ending doubleheader.

Schreiner catcher Dominick Garcia pokes a single through the infield against Centenary on Friday.
