Kerr County Livestock Show ends with a lot of green

Hundreds of thousands are raised for the students competing in the show.

For the work that the students of Kerr County's Future Farmers of America and 4H chapters put in, Saturday's auction at the Kerr County Livestock Show was a satisfying moment.

All told, 219 participants sold their well-tended critters — goat, lamb, pig, steer or heifer. As per tradition, the event raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the students, who can sock it away for college.

Center Point's Logan Burley earned $6,500 for his market swine on Saturday.

Many of the participants were old pros at the auction, many competing in livestock shows since kindergarten. For instance, Center Point High School senior Logan Burley has raised pigs since he was six. Along the way, Burley has found the time to play football, baseball, basketball and was elected as senior class president. He also applied and was accepted to at least five universities, including Schreiner and the University of Texas-San Antonio. Burley's hard work paid off when his 207-pound market swine fetched $6,500.

It's actually a familiar story. Many of these students will continue their agricultural studies at universities around the state, including Texas A&M and Angelo State — to name a few.
