Kerrville man identified as victim in fatal crash during Thursday's storm

Dennis Nelson Keller died Friday morning from his injuries at Peterson Regional Medical Center.

A 60-year-old Kerrville man has been identified as the victim of a fatal traffic collision on Interstate 10 on Thursday night — a crash authorities said was likely due to the weather.

Kerrville Police said Dennis Nelson Keller died early Friday morning at Peterson Regional Medical Center, where he had been taken to after the Ford F-350 pickup truck he was traveling in was struck by a big rig truck on the westbound side of Interstate 10 just before exit 508 — Sidney Baker Street.

Another passenger in the pickup truck, identified only as a 43-year-old man, was treated at Peterson Regional Medical Center and later released.

Keller leaves behind a wife, three daughters, two stepsons, 17 grandchildren and numerous grandchildren.

“Dennis never met a stranger,” his family wrote in his obituary. “Having lived in Kerrville most of his life he had many friends in the community. He was a hard worker and successful business owner who had a knack for buying and selling.”

Kerrville Police said they are still investigating the cause of the crash, one initially attributed to icy road conditions during Thursday’s snow and ice storm. Hundreds, if not thousands, of truck and passenger vehicle drivers were stranded by the road conditions that brought I-10 to a standstill for more than a day.

Keller’s visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday with a service following at 7 p.m. at Kerrville Apostolic Church, 1101 North St., Kerrville, Texas 78028. Keller was a faithful and vital member of Kerrville Apostolic Church for 41 years, his obituary noted.

Graveside services will be at noon, Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
