Schreiner University men's and women's basketball teams are on the road today at Dallas University — both critically important games.
The men take the court at 4 p.m., while the women play at 6 p.m. The women are coming off their worst loss of the season; a 122-75 beating by Trinity — the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference leader and the 20th ranked team in the nation.
The women are sitting in fourth place in the season's final three games. The Mountaineers face a Dallas team that has lost seven consecutive games and is 2-11 in the conference.
The loss to Trinity was the first time the Mountaineers had given up 100 points or more in a game in at least five years. Trinity forced the Schreiner into 33 turnovers, shot 66.7% from the field and knocked down 14 3-pointers.
In the men's game, Schreiner faces a 5-8 Dallas team that has pushed all of its opponents this season. The Mountaineers are tied for second place in the SCAC, one game back of conference-leading St. Thomas. Schreiner faces Dallas again next Friday in Kerrville. However, Schreiner plays at Trinity in a game that could help decide the conference regular-season championship. Both teams are tied for second.
