Super reserves power Schreiner women to road victory in Dallas

The Mountaineers get a season-high 22 points from Miranda Vallejo, including 13 in the fourth quarter.

Miranda Vallejo scored a season-high 22 points, while Demauria Miles added 20 to lead the Schreiner University women's basketball team to a 91-80 victory over host Dallas on Saturday night in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game.

It was Vallejo's second consecutive game, where she put up a season-high performance. Vallejo came off the bench to shoot 57% from the field (8-of-14) and add five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Schreiner's bench play was superb against Dallas, outscoring the host reserves 50-3. Elisa Peralta, who has been a key reserve, came into the game to score 15 points and grab a team-high eight rebounds.

Even with that great bench play, Dallas held its own against the Mountaineers — holding a 61-56 lead at the end of the third quarter. However, in the fourth quarter, Vallejo and Peralta dominated. Vallejo scored 13 of her 22 points in the quarter, while Peralta added nine points and six rebounds.

The Mountaineers outscored Dallas 35-19 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The victory moved the Mountaineers to 12-11 overall and 9-5 in the SCAC. Schreiner returns home Tuesday night to play host Trinity, a team that pummeled the Mountaineers last week 122-75.
