Doomed by a slow start in Colorado Springs on Monday night, Schreiner University women's basketball team made no such mistake on Friday night to overcome the visiting Tigers 63-60 in a crucial Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.
Gabby Ivarra scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Mountaineers.
Not only did the Mountaineers keep the game in reach — something they failed to do in a loss Monday night at Colorado College — but they caused mayhem in all four quarters. The Mountaineers forced Colorado College into 28 turnovers — a plus-14 margin in Schreiner's favor. Schreiner was then able to convert those turnovers into points, outscoring the Tigers 28-6.
It was Ivarra who sealed the victory for the Mountaineers with a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left in the game to break a 60-60 tie.
Nariyah Buggs scored 10 points, and the Mountaineers got scoring from 11 players. The victory moved the Mountaineers to 4-3 in the SCAC.
