Kerr County Lead is an independent and local source of daily news. Founded in 2021, The Kerr County Lead aims to provide high-quality journalism for Kerrville, Texas and the surrounding communities of the splendid Texas Hill Country. In the coming years, Texas will face exponential growth and the challenges of managing land, resources, and water. At the same time, the Hill Country offers a robust quality of life and culture. With this mission, The Lead focuses its work on the stories that matter most to the readers in Kerr County.
At The Kerr County Lead, we’re at your concert, we’re at your sports game — never miss what’s happening in your community. When there is news, we pay attention at a local level like no one else.
What do we do? Our team produces daily newsletters Monday through Friday (Mon-Thurs are members only) and free events newsletters on Sunday and Friday. We also record The Lead Live!, a daily live show that streams on Facebook and YouTube. Be sure to join us at 9 a.m. on weekdays.

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
