Holiday spirit takes center stage in Kerr County this week

Saturday’s signature event will be the Wreaths Across America Ceremony at 11 a.m. at Kerrville National Cemetery, where community members will place wreaths honoring 472 veterans. The Kerrville Civil Air Patrol Squadron conducts the ceremony with community support.

Kerr County residents will have numerous opportunities to celebrate the season over the next week, with holiday events ranging from theatrical performances to community gatherings scheduled across the area.

The week kicks off Monday with Santa’s arrival at Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library at 5 p.m., giving children a chance to meet St. Nick ahead of the Christmas rush.

Holiday programming intensifies as the week progresses. On Wednesday, Tailchasers Patio + Pub will host Christmas Loteria at 6:30 p.m., putting a festive twist on the traditional game.

Theater takes center stage Thursday through Sunday with multiple performances. “The Nutcracker Ballet” opens Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cailloux Theater, while “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” runs Friday through Sunday at VK Garage Theater. Based on Barbara Robinson’s beloved book, the Christmas pageant comedy will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee Sunday.

The weekend brings the heaviest concentration of holiday activities. Saturday’s signature event will be the Wreaths Across America Ceremony at 11 a.m. at Kerrville National Cemetery, where community members will place wreaths honoring 472 veterans. The Kerrville Civil Air Patrol Squadron conducts the ceremony with community support.

Crafters can participate in multiple events Saturday, including a Christmas Make & Take Party at The Rogue Skein from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Christmas at The Ridge at 3 p.m. and a Kids Craft Day Christmas Special at the Museum of Western Art at 5 p.m. The museum event will feature card-making, refreshments and carol singing.

Musical performances round out Saturday’s offerings. The Hill Country Chorale Christmas Concert begins at 4 p.m. at Tucker Hall, followed by Martin Burniston’s Christmas Singalong at 6:30 p.m. at The Arcadia Live.

Additional holiday-themed events include a vintage tree paint and sip class Friday at 7 p.m. at The Color of Clay and a holiday book club meeting Thursday at noon at the library.

While holiday events dominate the calendar, the week also features flood recovery reunification days Monday and Wednesday, various library programs, live music performances and the continuation of farmers markets and outdoor activities throughout the community.
