Jimmy Lee Wood, (Jim) 76, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation in Kerrville, TX. He was born on May 30, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas, the son of the late James Earl Wood and Eleonore (Lora) Wood.
On April 4, 1970, Jimmy married the love of his life, Sharon (Bolton) Wood in Piggott, Arkansas. Their enduring love story continues through Sharon, who survives to honor his memory.
Jimmy grew up in Piggott, Arkansas where he attended Piggott High School and Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR. He joined the Army National Guard in 1969 and served his country for 28 years retiring as Mess Sergeant in 1997.
Jimmy worked at H. W. Gossard in Piggott as a cutter for 10 years before moving to Texas in 1981. Jimmy was one of the first employees at the new Safeway store in Round Rock, TX. He continued his dad and Uncle Charles’ legacy as a meat cutter for the next 34 years, retiring from H-E-B, a Texas-based supermarket chain.
Jim’s most cherished achievement was serving as Scoutmaster of Troop #46 for eight years in his hometown of Piggott, Arkansas. He was honored to be awarded Scoutmaster of the Year at the 1975 Osage District’s Award Banquet. He enjoyed helping each boy earn their merit badges with the anticipated goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.
Jim’s passion was hunting and fishing with his buddies. He loved watching football and basketball games as well as wrestling on TV. He was also an avid stamp and coin collector.
Jim’s legacy is one of devotion to his family. He enjoyed being included in their lives, especially his nieces and nephews whom he loved with all his heart. Some of his happiest moments were cooking for his family and friends and making them laugh. He was a loving, caring husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for his faith, endurance, and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl and Eleonore (Lora) Wood and his brother, Danny Ray Wood.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Sharon (Bolton) Wood of Kerrville, Texas; his brother, James Leslie (Ponda) Wood, of Piggott, Arkansas; his brother, Kenneth Earl (Kim) Wood of Piggott, Arkansas; his aunt, Juanita Poe of Rector, Arkansas and sister-in-law, Janet Chism of Sardis, MS.; 5 nieces, 3 nephews, 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials are appreciated to The Salvation Army Kroc Center Kerrville or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
