Kerr County offers full week of community events, from Marine Corps Ball to wellness activities

Arts and cultural offerings dominate the week’s calendar, with multiple events at local institutions.

From a 250th Marine Corps Ball celebration to yoga classes, book clubs and live music, Kerr County residents will find no shortage of activities during the first full week of November.

The week’s marquee event comes Saturday, Nov. 8, when Gravity Check Saloon hosts the 250th Marine Corps Ball at 6 p.m., marking a significant military milestone for the community.

Arts and cultural offerings dominate the week’s calendar, with multiple events at local institutions. The Museum of Western Art hosts Wild West Wine Wednesday on Nov. 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., featuring tastings from Kerrville Hills Winery in a free event. The museum also holds Kids Craft Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Music lovers can catch performances throughout the week, including the Camerata concert “A Russian Mosaic – Imperial Russia” at First Presbyterian Church on Friday at 4 p.m. The program features works by Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and the Taneyev brothers, with free admission for students.

The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library anchors family programming with daily events, including story times for toddlers, Lego and Duplo clubs, and a Friends of the Library book sale Wednesday and Saturday. The library also hosts a “Gardening 101: Creating an Edible Ecosystem” workshop Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Wellness activities include Veterans Yoga at Kerrville Elks Lodge every Monday at 3 p.m., offered free to veterans through the Veterans Yoga Project. Full Moon Yoga takes place Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Trailhead Beer Garden.

Support groups meet throughout the week at Peterson Hospice & Home Care Building, including sessions for grief, caregivers and Parkinson’s patients.

Local farmers markets operate Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market at 301 Junction Highway and the Heart of the Hills Farmers Market at 741 Water St.

High school football features senior night celebrations Friday, with Tivy hosting Boerne High at Antler Stadium and Center Point facing D’Hanis at Pirate Stadium, both at 7 p.m.

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
