Tom Jones leads county judge race; commissioner contests tight in early returns
Jones led 4,320 to 2,348 — a margin of nearly 30 percentage points — in unofficial early returns. No election-day precincts had reported as of the first release.
Tom Jones held a commanding lead in the Kerr County Judge race Tuesday night as early voting results were released, with the incumbent-backed candidate pulling nearly two-thirds of the vote over challenger James “Jack” Stewart.
Jones led 4,320 to 2,348 — a margin of nearly 30 percentage points — in unofficial early returns. No election-day precincts had reported as of the first release.
The county judge race was among the most closely watched contests in the Republican primary, which dominated local ballots in heavily red Kerr County.
In the commissioner races, results were considerably tighter.
Precinct 1 produced the night’s most dramatic numbers: Brenda Hughes and Clay Lambert were deadlocked at 555 votes apiece — 32.82% each — in the four-way race for the unexpired term seat. Wayne Uecker trailed at 465 votes, with George Baroody a distant fourth at 116.
In Precinct 2, Rich Paces led Mike Allen 993 to 924 — a margin of fewer than 70 votes, or about 3.6 percentage points.
Precinct 4 was the clearest of the three commissioner contests, with Guy “Bubba” Walters leading Randy Murphy 1,186 to 909, a spread of nearly 14 points.
In the County Court-at-Law race, Robert Hunter Moose led a crowded five-candidate field with 2,753 votes, or 42.3%. Brett Ferguson was second at 1,491 votes, followed by Thomas Hurt, William Tatsch and Deborah Perry, who were bunched between 11% and 12.4%.
The District Clerk race showed Eunavae Baublit Tonroy ahead of Amber Longenbaugh 3,373 to 2,952 — a lead of roughly six points. County Clerk was similarly close, with Carl Berthold edging Denise Vela 3,317 to 3,066.
Taylor Robertson led Frank Bigler decisively in the Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 race, 639 to 343. In Precinct 4, Don Harris led a four-candidate field with 53% of the vote.
All results are unofficial early voting totals. Election-day precinct results were still pending.
