- Dr. William Rector, who heads the downtown Kerrville business group, said Thursday that the Springhill Suites by Marriot is still a go for downtown.
- If Thursday night's Kerrville planning and zoning commission meeting indicates the tone and frustration development is going to bring, we could be in for a long few years. The uncomfortable truth about the P&Z is that if a housing project meets the guidelines established by the city, approval should be granted under state law. That will bring up a lot of uncomfortable conversations as Kerrville deals with a wave of development. More to come.

The folks at Arcadia Live will host a concert Sunday night with a tribute group called Steely Dead — a mashup we never knew we needed. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are available. The band, via Arcadia's website, says it is committed to the nuance of both bands while remaining playful with jam segues between songs and delivering a unique musical blend. Actor and singer Billy Bob Thornton was scheduled to appear Saturday night with his band but canceled the show.
OVER AT HILL COUNTRY ARTS FOUNDATION IN INGRAM

AT TRAILHEAD ON SCHREINER'S CAMPUS
The beer garden has two events scheduled, including tonight's concert by Trey Gilliand. That show starts at 7 p.m and is free. On Saturday, Clifton Fifer will be teaching two-steppin' to anyone who wants to learn before a 7 p.m. concert by The Lonesome Heroes with Georgia Parker — that concert is $5.

Ingram Tom Moore is on the road at Junction City. Center Point, which won its season opener, plays host to TMI Episcopal. That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Harper is at home against Sabinal, with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Harper beat D'Hanis in its season opener, 14-7.
Comfort travels to face Mason in a matchup of 1-0 teams. Comfort trounced Mason last season, 30-6.
In Kerrville, Our Lady of the Hills tries to get back on the winning side of things tonight against visiting Brooks Collegiate Academy in a six-man matchup at 7:30 p.m.
TRACKING THE VIRUS
The group of parents aggressively tracking the coronavirus outbreak in Kerrville Independent School District reported there were 132 positive cases this week, and that's with just partial results.
While Tivy High School has 38 cases, the rest of the district's schools are well ahead of their total for all of last year. Reports from parents are that the virus presents mild to moderate symptoms for children, but it's also infected, parents.
The deeper household infections were addressed Thursday by Kerrville Mayor Bill Blackburn, who continued to urge people to get vaccinated. This was seconded by Peterson Health President and CEO Cory Edmondson.
MASKING MANIA
Now, can you imagine going into a hospital and berating someone for telling you to wear a mask? Well, that's exactly what staff at Peterson Regional Medical Center have faced, Edmondson said during Thursday's community update meeting. Edmondson asked people to respect the hospital staff. That should be a given, and it's painful that Edmondson has to remind us.
