Kerr County Sheriff's Office arrests suspected kidnapper

The Kerrville man was taken into custody after a standoff with a SWAT unit in Bexar County.

Kerr County Sheriff's investigators arrested a Kerrville man on suspicion of the violent kidnapping of a woman after an hours-long standoff in Bexar County on Oct. 16.

With the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety's Special Response Team, the sheriff's criminal investigation division was able to take Adrian Ornelas, 28, of Kerrville, into custody.

Sheriff's investigators allege Ornelas kidnapped and assaulted a woman in Kerr County earlier this month. Ornelas is being held on a $500,000 bond and is in the Kerr County Jail.

"This is a disturbing case," Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said. "We are pleased to have Mr. Ornelas in custody. The crimes alleged to have been perpetrated by this suspect are personal, violent, and shocking. Through three counties and multiple days, our CID investigators have started the process of getting justice for this victim."

Leitha said the sheriff's office was assisted by Texas Rangers, Texas Highway Patrol, DPS Criminal Investigation Division, DPS Special Response Team and Medina County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
