BREAKING: Kerr County will get a new Pct. 1 Commissioner on Monday

A replacement will be named Monday.

The Kerr County Commissioners Court will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday to discuss and appoint a Precinct 1 Commissioner to replace Harley Belew, who was removed by visiting 198th District Court Judge Sid Harle.

Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly has sole discretion to make the appointment, and it’s unclear if Kelly will seek someone who is not interested in running for re-election. However, sources told The Lead it’s likely to be a woman who will fill the final 14 months of Belew’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2024. No woman has ever served on the Commissioners Court.

Belew was dealt a setback this week when Harle denied an attempt to stay his order that removed Belew on Sept. 29. The county has removed Belew’s name and contact information from the website. Belew can still appeal the decision to the Texas Fourth Court of Appeals.
