Schreiner men top Southwestern, to earn 3rd straight win

GEORGETOWN — Schreiner University men's basketball team earned its third consecutive victory with a 73-59 victory over host Southwestern University on Friday night.

Jackson Reid scored a team-high 15 points — all from 3-point range —to lead the Mountaineers, who posted their second-largest margin of victory of the season. More importantly, the Mountaineers are now 3-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Southwestern visits Kerrville on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip. Schreiner has been competitive in almost every game this season, but this three-game surge marks one of the Mountaineers' best stretches of basketball in two years.

Senior Alex Dehoyos scored 14 points and dished out nine assists in 35 minutes of action.

The Mountaineers shot 45% from the field against Southwestern and showed significant improvement from 3-point range, where Schreiner was 10-of-26.

Schreiner's bench showed strength, with Bronson Evans scoring 13 points and the Mountaineers outscored Southwestern 27-19 off the bench. Evans also had a team-high 12 rebounds to help the Mountaineers dominate the boards, 51-33.

After holding a 29-21 halftime lead, Schreiner held leads as big as 16 points and seemed to answer every time Southwestern cut the lead to single digits.
