Peterson Health presents some improved COVID-19 news to start the week
Hospitalizations fall to their lowest level since Aug. 13, with 20 hospitalized in Kerrville.
After more than a month of struggle, Peterson Regional Medical Center reported its hospitalized COVID-19 patients fell to 20 — the lowest since Aug. 13.
Since Aug. 1, Peterson has treated a minimum of 80 people in the hospital — nearly a third of those in the intensive care unit. On Monday, there were still six people in ICU.
The news also improved on the positive tests, with just 19 new cases reported on Monday. That's one of the lowest weekend numbers in more than a month.
All of this, of course, doesn't mean that Kerr County is free of COVID-19. Peterson has seen dramatic dips in hospitalization only to see them rise back to near-record levels.
All of this comes after Peterson and the Texas Department of State Health Services reported a slew of new deaths. Peterson said two people died Sept. 16 and DSHS reported deaths from Aug. 13 and Sept. 2. At least 24 Kerr County residents have died from COVID-19 since Aug. 1. The county's death toll is likely more than 150 people.
