Schreiner University’s 102nd Spring Commencement will feature 2021 alumna Caitlin Leal, who now serves as Wish Discovery Manager at Make-A-Wish Foundation, as the keynote speaker for Friday’s ceremony.
The commencement begins at 7 p.m. on the front lawn of the Cailloux Campus Activity Center in Kerrville, with graduates from various undergraduate and graduate programs receiving their degrees.
Leal, a San Antonio native who earned a double major in Communication Studies and Psychology, was deeply involved in campus activities during her time at Schreiner. Her leadership roles included serving as President of the Ancient and Honorable Order of the Campus, Mountaineer Mentor, Student Ambassador, and Catholic Peer Ministry Leader.
After graduation, Leal joined the Make-A-Wish Foundation North Texas Chapter in November 2021. In her current role, she helps transform children’s wishes into reality – from arranging visits to Star Wars filming locations to orchestrating meetings with YouTube celebrities.
The ceremony will feature several traditional elements, including a ceremonial flyover by Schreiner aviation students, presentation of colors by Schreiner Institute Cadets, and the firing of a military cannon. Chloe Elizabeth Mills, Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate and class valedictorian, will deliver the response for the graduates.
Following a tradition started in 2017, President Charlie McCormick will present each graduate with a “Leave with Achievement” challenge coin as they cross the stage, symbolizing the completion of their Schreiner journey.
The event caps a day of celebrations that includes a special nursing pinning ceremony at 4:45 p.m. at the Junkin Campus Ministry Center for Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates.
