Schreiner defeats LeTourneau 4-2 in conference play

Haley Withers extended the lead to 3-0 in the 43rd minute with assistance from Sarada Farneti, sending Schreiner into halftime with a commanding margin.

Schreiner scored three first-half goals and held off a late rally to defeat LeTourneau 4-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play Friday.

Jess Sinclair opened the scoring in the eighth minute off an assist from Megan Chandonia. Kailey Ellsworth added an unassisted goal two minutes later to give the Mountaineers a 2-0 advantage.

Haley Withers extended the lead to 3-0 in the 43rd minute with assistance from Sarada Farneti, sending Schreiner into halftime with a commanding margin.

LeTourneau (5-4-1, 0-3-0) cut into the deficit when Chanel Kemball-Cook scored off a Malaika Barlow assist in the 68th minute. Ava Bara answered for Schreiner in the 78th minute, assisted by Abigail Scott, to push the lead back to three goals.

The YellowJackets added a late goal when Brandy Moran converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute, but Schreiner held on for the victory.

Emilie Novasad earned the win in goal for Schreiner (3-4-0, 2-1-0), making two saves on four shots. Kelauna Cruz and Kinsey Fulks combined for one save for LeTourneau, with Fulks taking the loss.

Schreiner outshot LeTourneau 5-4 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Mountaineers return to action Sunday when they host Austin at noon.
