Halloween festivities are the lead this week across Kerr County
Halloween festivities will take center stage Friday across Kerr County, with more than a dozen themed events offering everything from family-friendly trunk-or-treats to murder mysteries and ghost tours.
Halloween festivities will take center stage Friday across Kerr County, with more than a dozen themed events offering everything from family-friendly trunk-or-treats to murder mysteries and ghost tours.
The celebrations kick off at 5 p.m. with the Halloween Fall Festival at Trailhead Beer Garden. Shortly after, at 5:30 p.m., families can choose between Family Fright Night at Louise Hays Park, Trunk or Treat at Christ Church Presbyterian or the Halloween Crawl at Center Point Historical Park.
As evening approaches, the scares intensify. Downtown Kerrville Ghost Tour begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center, offering a ticketed walking tour through the city’s haunted history. Also at 6:30 p.m., Tailchasers Patio + Pub hosts Under the Blood Moon Murder Mystery, a ticketed interactive event requiring RSVP.
For those seeking live entertainment, Halloween parties continue throughout the night. Central Provisions hosts Halloween Kerr-aoke & Costume Contest at 7 p.m., while Gravity Check Saloon presents Halloween Party & Dance with Heartbreak Outlaws at the same time. Divines Sports Bar rounds out the evening with Fright Night at 8 p.m.
But Halloween isn’t the only draw this week.
The week begins Monday with historical programming as the Daughters of the Republic of Texas hosts speaker Clifton Fifer at First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. His presentation on Buffalo Soldiers is open to the public.
Schreiner University anchors Monday evening with two free events: the premiere of E Pluribus Texas, a history video series by The Texas Center, at 6 p.m., followed by Monday Night Fiction featuring Ian Rankin’s “Mortal Causes” at 7 p.m.
Nature lovers will find multiple opportunities throughout the week. Tuesday’s NEd Talk at Riverside Nature Center at 1 p.m. explores Native Plant Fibers & Dyes, while the center’s Celebrate the Night Star Party begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday morning, the Wildflower Bunch meets at 9 a.m. to study native wildflowers.
Veterans have dedicated programming Tuesday and Wednesday. A Grief Support Group meets Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Peterson Hospice & Home Care Building, while Wednesday’s VetConnect Resource Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hill Country Veterans Center.
The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library maintains an active schedule with age-specific programming: Lap-Sit Story Time for children 3 and under Tuesday at 10 a.m., Storytime Wednesday at 10 a.m., Duplo Club Thursday at 10 a.m. and Tech Help Friday at 3 p.m. The Friends of the Library Book Sale runs Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Live music fills venues nightly, from Heartbreak Outlaws at Gravity Check Saloon Tuesday at 6 p.m. to Bill & Mary Muse with Fletcher Clark at Pint & Plow Brewing Co. on Friday at 6 p.m.
Friday also features high school football with Ingram Tom Moore hosting Luling at 7 p.m. for Parents Night, while Schreiner University women’s volleyball plays St Thomas at 6 p.m.
The weekend extends the festivities. Saturday features multiple markets including Hill Country Swap Meet and Kerr County Market Days at Hill Country Youth Events Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Holiday Magic Market at Kerrville Elks Lodge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with all proceeds benefiting local charities.
Saturday evening brings Dia de los Muertos celebrations at Trailhead Beer Garden at 5 p.m., continuing the seasonal theme. The Downtown Kerrville Ghost Tour runs again at 6:30 p.m. Hill Country Chorale performs Andrew Lloyd Webber selections at Tucker Hall at 4 p.m.
Sunday closes the week with A Choral Experience featuring Mozart and Lauridsen at Cailloux Theater at 3 p.m.
The Harvest Festival + Pumpkin Patch at Sovereignty Ranch continues through Nov. 2, open Tuesday through Sunday.
