Hardin-Simmons routs Schreiner men, 96-56

Schreiner University men suffered one of their worst defeats of the season with a searing home loss against visiting Hardin-Simmons on Saturday night.
The Cowboys (9-7) dominated from the opening tip, shooting a blistering 55 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from 3-point range to rout the Mountaineers (4-6) 96-56 at Stephens Family Arena.
Hardin-Simmons built a commanding 48-28 halftime advantage and maintained the same 20-point margin in the second half, matching their first-half output with another 48 points.
Myles Amason led the Cowboys with a game-high 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. Chris Bryant added 14 points, while Jared Cox contributed 13 points off the bench. Matthew Alexander scored 11 points and Andrew Messenger chipped in 10.

The Mountaineers struggled mightily from the perimeter, connecting on just 2-of-21 attempts from 3-point range for a season-low 9.5 percent. Schreiner shot 32.3 percent overall (20-62) but managed 63.6 percent from the free-throw line (14-22).
Hardin-Simmons controlled the boards with a 45-35 rebounding advantage and dished out 20 assists while forcing 20 Schreiner turnovers. The Cowboys blocked three shots and recorded 13 steals.
Mario Johnson pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for Schreiner despite scoring just five points. The Mountaineers managed 12 assists and nine steals while blocking two shots.
