A weekend brimming of live music, and fun across Kerr County

The Wilder Blue headlines Kerr County events on Friday night.

Residents and visitors in Kerr County face a packed calendar of events this weekend, offering everything from musical performances and outdoor activities to literary gatherings and cultural experiences.

The weekend launches Thursday with family-friendly options including the Sprouts program at Riverside Nature Center, where preschoolers can explore nature through storytelling. Teens can gather at the After School Lounge at Doyle Community Center for games, snacks and homework help.

Book enthusiasts can join the Historical Fiction Book Club at Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library to discuss “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown, while younger visitors can participate in Lego Club activities later that afternoon.

Thursday evening features several musical offerings, including Country Nights Open Mic at Gravity Check Saloon and the Songkeepers Pop Up Song Circle at Trailhead Beer Garden, a free all-ages event hosted by Jacobi Caldwell with Konrad Wert.

Friday brings additional outdoor learning opportunities with the 1 on 1 with a Naturalist program at Riverside Nature Center, where certified Texas Master Naturalists answer questions about environmental stewardship. Support groups for grief and caregivers meet at First Presbyterian Church and the Hospice & Home Care Building, respectively.

Schreiner University hosts baseball and softball games against Austin on both Friday and Saturday. The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library offers a Meditative Sound Bath Friday evening.

Wine enthusiasts can participate in the First Friday Wine Share at Legacy Partners Realty, bringing one bottle for every two people and their own wine glass.

Friday’s music scene includes performances by Susan Herndon at Cafe at the Ridge, Johnny Adair & Country Fire Band at Truffles & Vines, and The Wilder Blue at The Arcadia Live.

Saturday morning begins with the Kerrville Walking Group’s nature walk, typically covering 2-4 miles. Multiple markets operate throughout the day, including the Hillside Harvest Market, the Farmers Market on Water Street, and a Clothing Swap at Central Provisions.

The library hosts a Friends of the Library Book Sale, a Gardening 101 workshop, and an author talk with Jack Haberer, who will read from his book “Swimming with the Sharks: Being a Full-Spectrum Citizen in a Red-and-Blue World.”

Creative opportunities include a Ceramic Travel Tumbler Workshop at The Color of Clay and an Afterthought Heel & Toe Class at The Rogue Skein.

Saturday evening features multiple musical performances across town, with a Mardi Gras celebration with Mike Kasberg Jazz Band at The Arcadia Live and a Jimmy Buffett tribute by Lost Shaker of Salt at Gravity Check Saloon.

The weekend concludes Sunday with brunch at Sovereignty Ranch and afternoon music performances by Shane Stumpf, George Ensle Duo, and Theresa’s Fiddle jam at various venues. Bingo enthusiasts can try their luck at American Legion Post 208.

These diverse offerings showcase Kerrville’s vibrant community and provide entertainment options for all ages and interests throughout the weekend.

Author

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
