Hilliard’s 21 kills helps Schreiner beat Colorado College in historic program victory
The Mountaineers (15-3, 7-0 SCAC) won 25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-11 before a crowd of 122 at El Pomar Sports Center.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Giana Hilliard recorded 21 kills and Schreiner defeated Colorado College 3-2 Friday night, snapping a 17-match losing streak against the Tigers that dated to 2017.
The Mountaineers (15-3, 7-0 SCAC) won 25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-11 before a crowd of 122 at El Pomar Sports Center.
Hilliard, a junior outside hitter from San Antonio, added 17 digs and a block in the five-set victory. The two-time all-conference selection finished with a team-high 24.0 points.
Mackenzie Strban contributed 13 kills on a .357 hitting percentage for Schreiner, while Ryleigh Jones added eight kills and three blocks. Setter Harlie Gallaspy distributed 34 assists.
Libero Jenna Palomarez anchored the defense with 26 digs.
Carolyn Dormady led Colorado College (12-6, 4-3 SCAC) with 23 kills, and Camille Sherrill added 19. Annie Joo recorded 59 assists for the Tigers.
The victory marked Schreiner’s first-ever win against Colorado College and kept the Mountaineers undefeated atop the SCAC Gold Division standings. The 15 victories already represent Schreiner’s best season since joining NCAA Division III.
Fourth-year coach Jeremiah Tiffin’s squad has won 10 consecutive matches and holds a one-game lead over St. Thomas in the conference race.
Schreiner returns home to face St. Thomas on Oct. 31.
