Jennie Sue Motheral: July 7, 1936-Jan. 16, 2024

Born on July 7, 1936, in Eagle Lake, Texas, to Charles Samuel McLellan [dec] and Martha Francis Golden McLellan [dec]. Jennie passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, January 16, 2024, with her immediate family by her bedside.

She was raised in Eagle Lake, Texas with her 3 siblings; Harriet Lee Davidson [dec], Sarah Jane Smith of Mobile, Alabama, and Charles Robert McLellan of Austin, Texas.

Early in life, Jennie began making her mark in the world with a number of accomplishments.

At the age of five, when her father served as a Texas State Representative, she traveled and aided him during his campaigns. She never met a stranger. As a high school Junior, she played basketball and as a Forward, she set a state girl’s scoring record of 50 points in a single game. Her family moved to Austin the summer before her Senior year in high school. She entered McCallum High School in Austin with an abundant surplus of class transfer credits. This allowed her to only attend morning classes, freeing her afternoons to work at the office of Senator Gus J. Strauss. After high school, she entered and attended UT Austin with an Elementary Education degree as her major.

Jennie married Richard Bruce Motheral, on August 29, 1956. They lived in Austin until they moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1961 with their 3 young children; Robert Bruce of Kerrville, James Charles of Kerrville and Kathryn Elizabeth [dec]. The family lived there until finally moving to Kerrville in 1984.  She partnered with her husband for many years in the family’s businesses. 

She was an involved leader for two communities while raising her 3 children.  She had many interests throughout her life that kept her active within her community including membership at First United Methodist Church, and troop leader with both Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America in Georgetown, Texas.  Locally, she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir for over 30 years and was an active member in Women of the Word (WOW).  She was the president of the Kerrville Women’s Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Executive Women’s Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jennie lived life as it came, and faced both its adventures and challenges with God and family centered in her heart.  She always had a warm, caring hand for everyone and shared it graciously.

She is survived by her husband and two sons; 3 Grandchildren, Megan Anderson, Brandon Motheral and Anna Lyons; along with 5 Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Sarah Smith of Mobile, Alabama, and brother, Robert McLellan of Austin, Texas.

The family asks in lieu of flowers to please donate to Peterson Hospice in Kerrville.

A Memorial Services to be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville, Texas at 10:00am, January 27, 2024, followed by a reception.

A Graveside Service will be held in IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas at 3:00pm on January 27, 2024.
