Kerr County gas prices tick up; Texas diesel within pennies of all-time record

Texas regular unleaded, by comparison, remains well below its own record of $4.695, set June 15, 2022 — though at $3.844 statewide, prices are up nearly a dollar from a year ago and rising fast. Premium in Texas now averages $4.697, just two cents below its own all-time high.

Gas prices in Kerr County climbed again Tuesday, and Texas diesel is now within striking distance of a historic high as geopolitical tensions continue driving fuel costs upward nationwide.

AAA put the Kerr County average for regular unleaded at $3.90 Tuesday. Across Texas, regular averaged $3.844 — a 16.6-cent jump from a week ago and nearly 99 cents higher than this time last year.

At the pump in Kerrville, GasBuddy data collected Tuesday midday showed regular unleaded ranging from $3.84 at the Valero on Medina Highway to $3.99 at a wide range of stations including H-E-B on Main Street, all three Stripes locations, Shell on Junction Highway, and the KOA on Goat Creek Road. The best values for regular were clustered at $3.85, available at Velocity on Medina Highway and multiple Valero locations on Sidney Baker Street.

Diesel ranged more sharply locally, from $5.19 at the KOA on Goat Creek Road up to $5.49 at several stations including Stripes on Sidney Baker and Memorial Boulevard, Exxon on Junction Highway, and Valero on Broadway. Velocity on Medina at $5.24 and two Valero locations on Sidney Baker at $5.27 offered the next-best diesel options after KOA.

The more striking number is the statewide diesel figure. The Texas average hit $5.286 per gallon Tuesday, up 7.4 cents from Monday and 25.7 cents from last week. The all-time Texas diesel record stands at $5.326, set June 19, 2022. At the current pace of increases, that record could fall within days.

Texas regular unleaded, by comparison, remains well below its own record of $4.695, set June 15, 2022 — though at $3.844 statewide, prices are up nearly a dollar from a year ago and rising fast. Premium in Texas now averages $4.697, just two cents below its own all-time high.

GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan warned Monday that the national average could reach $4.20 to $4.35 per gallon in the days ahead as last week’s wholesale cost increases work through to consumers. Ongoing U.S.-Iran tensions and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz — through which roughly 20% of global crude flows — continue to drive volatility in oil markets. Travelers heading west on Interstate 10 toward El Paso are already seeing averages well above $4, a reminder that Texas’s relatively low statewide figure masks significant regional variation.
