KISD names new principal for Peterson Middle School

Houston-area school administrator is selected to lead Kerrville middle school.

The Kerrville Independent School District will name Sonerka “Sunny” Mouton as its new principal of Hal Peterson Middle School during the June 12 board of trustees meeting.

Mouton has already started in her role and has met with the school’s faculty and staff. KISD Superintendent Brent Ringo said he is excited to welcome her to the district. Dr. Mouton has valuable experience building relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders and previously served as principal at Stafford Middle School.

Mouton holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston, an MBA from Texas Southern University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Dillard University in New Orleans. HPMS students and families can meet Dr. Mouton at Spike Nights on Aug. 8-9, before the new school year starts on Aug. 14.

Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities.
