Photo gallery: Hill Country Youth Ranch trail run 2023

On a gorgeous Spring day, more than 100 runners traversed the challenging Big Spring Ranch at the Headwaters of the Frio.

With more than 100 runners, the Headwaters of the Frio Trail Run raised more than $67,000 for the Hill Country Youth Ranch. The race was held at the Big Spring Ranch in Leakey. The runners could run 5 kilometers, 12 kilometers, half-marathon (13.1 miles) or the marathon (26.2 miles).

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities.
