Rev. Fern Lancaster: Sept. 14, 1936-July 16, 2026

Reverend Fern Marie Wilks Lancaster went to be with Jesus on July 16, 2026, in Kerrville, Texas. Born on September 14, 1936, in Cimarron, Kansas. Fern lived a remarkable life defined by her unwavering faith, devotion to family, and a lifelong passion for ministry.

Fern married the love of her life, Jess D. Lancaster, in Wichita, Kansas, in 1957. Shortly thereafter, in 1960, they moved to Glendora, California, where they raised their four cherished daughters. In 1995, Fern and Jess made the cross-country move to Kerrville, Texas, to be closer to three of their daughters and their grandchildren.

A Lifetime of Faith & Service

Outside of her family, Fern devoted her life entirely to ministry. She became an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God denomination. During this season of her life, she was instrumental in the birthing and launching of Clergy Women Ministries within the Assemblies of God organization.

Fern was also a lifetime member of Aglow International Ministries, serving in many different positions throughout the years within that well-loved fellowship.

After relocating to Texas, Fern continued to live out her passion for the Lord, especially through preaching the Word of God. Over the past few decades, she served in various capacities with organizations including CAM (Community Assistance Ministry), the Ministerial Alliance, and The National Day of Prayer in Kerrville.  Fern had also served as a Reverend at First Assembly of God Church and a Minister at First Christian Church. She led the Invocation Prayer in numerous Chamber of Commerce meetings and events. One of her greatest delights was serving on the board for The Coming King Foundation.

An accomplished writer and missionary, Fern authored two books: How to Pray Scripture for Children and The Holy Spirit in India; From Mundane to Miracles. One of her fondest memories was her mission trip to India, where she ministered through prayer and preached the Word to her beloved Indian people. Even in her eighties, her heart for service never slowed—she found immense joy in ministering to the women at Mercy Gate, and true to who she was, continued to preach to her neighbors and new friends while living at River Point.

Family & Legacy

Fern was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jess D. Lancaster.

She leaves behind a rich legacy through her family, including her four daughters, Dianna Wilson, Anita Grace, Belinda Ugarte, and Rhonda Melbon; nine grandchildren, Renee Devaney, Rocky Favia Jr., Cherri Nelson, Jeny Ugarte, Saul Ugarte, Jesse Ugarte, Melissa Melbon, Marcela Melbon, and Matthew Melbon; and her seven great grandchildren.

It is hard to say goodbye to someone who touched so many lives so deeply. Fern finished her race with courage and grace and has now won the prize of eternal life with Jesus.
