Schreiner gives up 22 hits in 17-5 loss to DeSales
Schreiner (4-14) showed brief signs of life in the third inning, scoring three runs to narrow the deficit to 5-4.
SAN ANTONIO — DeSales University exploded for 22 hits, including home runs from Travis Kerr and JT Anderosky, to defeat Schreiner University 17-5 in college baseball action Wednesday at Trinity Baseball Field.
The Bulldogs (3-4) jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by Kerr’s solo homer and a two-run single from Owen Fischl. DeSales continued to build their advantage with two more runs in the second and maintained control throughout the game.
Schreiner (4-14) showed brief signs of life in the third inning, scoring three runs to narrow the deficit to 5-4, but the Mountaineers couldn’t sustain the momentum. DeSales pulled away with a three-run sixth inning and a four-run seventh to put the game out of reach.
Owen Geng (1-0) earned the win for DeSales, allowing just one unearned run over two innings of relief. The Bulldogs used five pitchers in the victory, with Danny Trentacosta closing out the game with two perfect innings, striking out three.
Jacob Rivera led DeSales’ offensive onslaught, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Anderosky added three hits, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning, and drove in three runs. Kerr also contributed three hits, two RBI and scored three times.
For Schreiner, Daniel Rodriguez collected two hits and scored twice, while Nate Barrera provided the Mountaineers’ only home run, a solo shot in the second inning. Nolan Sauceda (1-4) took the loss, allowing three runs in his lone inning of work as Schreiner used seven pitchers in the contest.
The Bulldogs broke the game open with four runs in the seventh inning, keyed by Eric Wert’s two-run double, and added three more in the eighth to complete their offensive showcase.
Schreiner committed two errors that led to three unearned runs, while both teams executed defensive highlights with DeSales turning one double play and Schreiner recording two.
