Schreiner women fall behind early, can't overcome Texas Lutheran

In 75-63 loss, a poor second quarter dooms the visiting Mountaineer.

Despite a furious fourth-quarter finish, Schreiner University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a horrendous first-half on Tuesday night in a 75-63 loss against host Texas Lutheran in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both programs.

Schreiner was outscored 21-8 in the second quarter by the Bulldogs. Texas Lutheran built a commanding 62-39 lead at the end of the third quarter.

First-year reserve guard Elisa Peralta helped spark the Mountaineers' fourth-quarter run with a pair of 3-pointers. Peralta scored nine points off the bench. Senior Josline Hernandez and first-year player Demauria Miles scored 16 points each, while senior Gabby Ivarra scored 11 points in 37 minutes.

Schreiner is now 3-6 on the season.

The Mountaineers are off until Dec. 17 when they visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in an exhibition game. The Mountaineers don't return home until Jan. 8 when they play host to Southwestern.
