Texas Lutheran scores early, often to rout Schreiner women

The Bulldogs led 46-27 at halftime and pushed the advantage to 21 points after three quarters, holding Schreiner to 10 points in the second period.

Texas Lutheran pulled away early and never looked back, handing Schreiner University’s women’s basketball team an 81-54 defeat Saturday at Stephens Family Arena in the Mountaineers’ penultimate game of the season.

The Bulldogs led 46-27 at halftime and pushed the advantage to 21 points after three quarters, holding Schreiner to 10 points in the second period.

Hannah Gallegos and Lauren Sansano each scored 18 points to pace Texas Lutheran, which shot 48.5% from the field. Sansano added eight rebounds and three steals. Davi’Yanna Jones contributed 12 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Brie Sosa led Schreiner with 15 points, connecting on 4 of 7 attempts from 3-point range. Bell Martinez added nine points and five assists off the bench. Lynnashia Brooks finished with eight points and three rebounds.

The Mountaineers shot 37.7% from the field and committed 17 turnovers compared to 11 for Texas Lutheran. Schreiner also struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 5 of 18 attempts.
