Schreiner women split in hoops trip at Dallas, Austin College

The split leaves Schreiner at 4-19 overall and 3-11 in SCAC play.

Lynnashia Brooks scored 20 points to lead Schreiner to a 62-46 victory at Dallas on Thursday, snapping the Mountaineers’ eight-game losing streak before falling 59-42 at Austin on Friday to split the weekend road trip.

Brooks shot 8-for-14 from the field and added six rebounds in the win at Dallas. Nevaeh Gray contributed 15 points and Brie Sosa added 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting from 3-point range.

Schreiner (4-19, 3-11 SCAC) dominated the second half against Dallas, outscoring the Crusaders 42-24 after a 20-22 halftime score. The Mountaineers held Dallas to 32.7 percent shooting from the field and forced 12 turnovers.

La’Aria Miller led Dallas (4-19, 3-10 SCAC) with 11 points off the bench.

The following night at Austin, Schreiner struggled offensively and shot just 30.2% from the field in a 59-42 loss to the Kangaroos. Gray and Sosa each scored 12 points to pace the Mountaineers, while Brooks was held to six points on 3-for-7 shooting.

Austin (13-10, 10-4 SCAC) built a 30-17 halftime lead and never looked back. Avory Miller scored 19 points off the bench to lead the Kangaroos, shooting 7-for-14 from the field. Trinity Williams added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Schreiner shot 29.4 percent from 3-point range and committed 17 turnovers against Austin.
