The Lead Live Podcast: Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025 episode
The Sept. 9 episode of The Lead Live, recorded at the Peterson Health Digital Studio at Pint and Plow Brewing Co., featured guests Julie Davis of the Kerrville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Doug Hetzler of Gibson’s Discount Center, and Janelle Peralt of JP Properties. Clifton Fifer of the Doyle Community Center also made a surprise visit.
A major discussion point was the current tax and budget situation in Kerr County. The Kerrville City Council was set to discuss the tax rate, with a workshop planned for 4 p.m. Concerns were raised during the Commissioners Court meeting about large piles of debris and mulch between Hunt, Kerrville, Centerpoint, and Comfort. Farmers in Centerpoint, including Katie and Justin Graham, emphasized the economic value of keeping composted material within Kerr County to support regenerative farming. An accusation was made that polluted debris was being hauled out of Kerr County to composting facilities elsewhere, where it could be sold for profit. Contracts were requested from the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM), which is managing the debris removal. Kerr County adopted its tax rate and budget despite Judge Rob Kelly’s concerns about using reserve funds, predicting future tax increases.
Julie Davis highlighted several upcoming cultural events, including an art exhibit by Walt Gonsky, Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, Symphony of the Hills’ 25th season opening on Oct. 9, and the Holiday Lighted Parade on Nov. 22. Community events mentioned included a Kable Ford non-perishable food drive. The KPA Gives Back free pet wellness event on Sept. 13.
In real estate, Janelle Peralt noted positive movement with interest rates dropping to 6.25% and announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony for JP Properties on Sept. 26. Doug Hetzler provided an overview of new products at Gibson’s Discount Center, including French Farms goat milk lotion and children’s clothing, as well as gift ideas like rechargeable plasma lighters and collectible Case knives.
Shriner University will launch a new weekly sports broadcast hosted by Ted Davis, to be carried on The Lead’s Facebook page starting Wednesday. Upcoming high school football rivalry games include Harper vs. Center Point, Tivy vs. Fredericksburg, and Comfort vs. Ingram.
