The episode opened with breaking news that Center Point ISD had canceled all classes that morning due to a lack of running water at the school. This unforeseen issue allowed Center Point teacher and local yoga instructor Sara Cotton to join the broadcast as a last-minute guest.

Municipal Accounting Breakdown

Amestoy and guest Janelle Peralt, of JP Properties TX, addressed a recent op-ed from the political group “Liberty in Action,” which claimed Kerr County had a $70 million “net position” that could be used for general purposes.

Peralt explained the term net position reflects total assets and restricted funds, such as grants for wastewater improvements or the value of public facilities, not readily available cash.

In local politics news, Amestoy noted the upcoming Kerrville City Council election was effectively canceled as Mayor Joe Herring and Councilmember Kent McKinney are running unopposed.

Real Estate and Entertainment Updates

Peralt also provided an update on the January real estate market, noting it was “rolling along at a flat pace” with the median price for a home hovering between $190 and $200 per square foot. She highlighted a “sweet spot” for buyers, citing a significant increase in inventory for homes priced from $200,000 to $299,000.

In the arts, Amy Goodyear of Playhouse 2000 reported that a severe Flu A outbreak among the cast and crew forced the cancellation of two performances of the play Sweat. The show is scheduled to resume for its final weekend.

Stacie Schiltz of Arcadia Live previewed upcoming events at the theater, including a Princess Bride shadow cast and the venue’s 100th-anniversary speakeasy party, “Prohibition to Prison.”

Chair Yoga Session

Cotton, the yoga instructor, led an impromptu chair yoga session for the panel, focusing on stretching the fascia to relieve neck and back tension. She guided the hosts through specific movements, including shoulder rolls and an elbow-drop stretch, while emphasizing that yoga is accessible to all, regardless of flexibility. “Well, that’s why you go, right? Nobody is. That’s why you go,” Cotton said.
