The Schreiner University men’s track and field team put together a productive two-week stretch in late March, collecting several podium finishes and individual standout performances at the TLU Invite in Seguin and the Charles Austin Classic in San Marcos.
The Mountaineers opened the stretch March 20-21 at Texas Lutheran, where junior middle-distance runner Sean Dansby won the 800 meters outright with a time of 1:56.26. Dansby then returned the following weekend at the Charles Austin Classic and improved to 1:52.04, finishing second in a faster field — one of the more notable individual progressions across the two meets.
In the sprints, senior Xavier Tellez led the way for Schreiner, running a 10.79 in the 100 meters at TLU to finish third. Junior Justin Gooden had a breakout performance in the 400 at TLU, clocking 48.71 to earn third place — a strong mark for the Mountaineers’ quarter-mile corps.
Senior Justin Britton posted a 21.03 in the 200 meters at TLU, good for second place in that event. Britton also anchored relays across both meets. The 4×100 squad finished second at TLU (41.51) and fourth at the Charles Austin Classic (41.39), while the 4×400 team — running 3:25.06 at both meets — earned fourth at TLU and third at San Marcos.
In the field, freshman Jayden Clawson was consistent in the horizontal jumps. He reached 6.30 meters (20 feet, 8 inches) in the long jump at TLU for a seventh-place finish and recorded a triple jump of 13.04 meters (42-9.5) for third place at the same meet. He backed that up at the Charles Austin Classic with a 5.99-meter long jump (19-8).
The throws corps delivered a pair of event victories. Sophomore Tyler Davis won the shot put at TLU with a top mark of 14.50 meters (47-7), the best mark of the two-meet stretch for any Schreiner thrower. Freshman Evan Guardiola then won the discus at the Charles Austin Classic with a throw of 40.98 meters (134-5), also taking seventh in the discus at TLU with a 41.19-meter effort — his best mark of the two meets.
Freshman Neal Ramos contributed in the 400 hurdles, finishing ninth at the Charles Austin Classic with a time of 59.36 seconds, just off his TLU mark of 1:00.98 for eighth.
