Schreiner was picked fourth with 37 points in its return to the ASC, coming off a 24-7 season in 2025. The Mountaineers return two 2025 All-Conference selections in setter Harlie Gallaspy, a senior, and outside hitter Giana Hilliard, also a senior.
Mendoza (7-8) was at her sharpest through the evening's second game, holding the War Hawks to five hits and issuing just one walk. Schreiner University took all three games from St. Thomas (Tex.) over a two-day stretch in Huntsville, outscoring the Celtics 26-15 in a weekend sweep that moved the Mountaineers within the top five of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.
The Crusaders erupted for five runs in the eighth inning — three of them unearned on a Schreiner error — and closed with a run in the ninth to hand the Mountaineers a 7-3 non-conference defeat Tuesday afternoon at Schreiner Field.
