A week full of events: From River Trail cleanups to Russian mosaic concerts

The library hosts multiple events throughout the week, including “Blind Date with a Book” from Tuesday through Friday, Story Time on Wednesday at 10 a.m., and various book clubs.

Kerr County residents have a packed week ahead, with activities ranging from veterans yoga and trivia nights to theatrical performances and college basketball games.

The week kicks off Monday with Veterans Yoga at the Kerrville Elks Lodge at 3 p.m., a free class led by Rick Trzcinski of the Veterans Yoga Project. Monday Mingle at Turtle Creek Vineyard features music by Matthew Butler from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Tuesday brings the Kerrville Toastmasters meeting at Security State Bank & Trust at noon, followed by TexS Talks: Texas Risk Takers at Schreiner University’s Campus Ministry Chapel at 6 p.m. The Heartbreak Outlaws perform at Gravity Check Saloon at 6 p.m.

Wednesday’s highlights include the Wildflower Bunch gathering at Riverside Nature Center at 10 a.m. and the Kerrville Genealogical Society Meeting at 2 p.m., featuring guest speaker Angela Kennedy presenting on the Heart of the Hills Heritage Center. The Naturalist Book Club meets at Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library at noon to discuss “The Nature of Oaks” by Doug Tallamy.

Thursday features a Heart Health Seminar at the Dietert Center at 10 a.m., hosted by Peterson Health. Evening entertainment includes Country Nights Open Mic at Gravity Check Saloon, The Maplewood Brothers at Howdy’s Bar & Chill at 7 p.m., and Taj Farrant at Lazy Days Canteen at Roddy Tree at 8 p.m. Trivia enthusiasts can compete at The Arcadia Live Theater’s T4: Third Thirsty Thursday Trivia at 6:30 p.m.

Friday brings multiple Schreiner University athletic events, with men’s basketball against Texas Lutheran at 5:30 p.m., softball against Concordia at 6 p.m., and women’s basketball against Texas Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. Camerata presents “Russian Mosaic-Soviet Russia” at First Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m., featuring music shaped by censorship and Soviet-era restraint. The performance is free for students.

The VK Garage Theater opens “Sweat” on Friday at 7:30 p.m., continuing through Sunday. The play explores lifelong friendships fractured by economic insecurity and small-town struggles.

Saturday’s outdoor activities include the River Trail Cleanup along the Guadalupe River Trail from 8 a.m. to noon, organized by the Upper Guadalupe River Authority. The Kerrville Walking Group meets at 8 a.m. for nature walks of 2-4 miles.

Two farmers markets operate Saturday morning: Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market at 301 Junction Hwy and Heart of the Hills Farmers Market at 741 Water St., both running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The National Museum of the Pacific War hosts its Day of Remembrance at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday with free admission. The afternoon program is also available virtually.

Arts and crafts workshops Saturday include Life Drawing at Hill Country Atelier from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a Chicken Planter Workshop at The Color of Clay at noon, and “From Scrap to Sprout: Craft Seed Paper” at Riverside Nature Center at 3 p.m.

Saturday evening features the Kerrville Ducks Unlimited Banquet at Hill Country Youth Event Center at 5 p.m., along with multiple live music performances across various venues.

The week concludes Sunday with Schreiner University basketball doubleheaders against Concordia, men’s at noon and women’s at 2 p.m. Cailloux Theater presents “Broadway Leading Ladies” at 3 p.m., and Central Provisions hosts a Monthly Potluck at 6 p.m.

Throughout the week, Peterson Health sponsors multiple support groups, including PALS Support Group for parents and caregivers of special needs children on Tuesday, Cardiac Support Group on Wednesday, and grief and caregiver support groups on Friday.
