“Bombshells” is ready to hit the VK Garage Theater

The theater will present the world premiere of Lemuel “Mitch” Mitchell’s new screwball comedy,

Playhouse 2000 (P2K), Kerrville’s community theater, is buzzing with activity, announcing a world premiere, upcoming auditions, and a newly renovated lobby.

The theater will present the world premiere of Lemuel “Mitch” Mitchell’s new screwball comedy, “Bombshells,” opening Friday, Feb. 7, and running through Feb. 23. Performances will be on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Sundays, Feb. 16 and 23 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $24 each.

“Bombshells” pays homage to 1940s Hollywood comedies, featuring fast-paced wit and physical humor. The play is set at the end of World War II and follows four women looking for romance with a group of wartime specialists in London. Their plans are complicated by a commander, a possible spy, and their own lack of experience. The cast includes:

• Jesirae Kesler as “Lulu”

• Jessica Sturm as “Mary”

• Tasha Remschel as “Garbo”

• Becca Bigott as “Jane”

• Treston Woods as “Stillwater”

• Brad Gilbert as “Mousehole”

• Irec Hargrove as “Jersey”

• Chris Burgess as “Skatch”

• David Remschel as the “Colonel”

The play is directed by Amy Goodyear, with Darcey Wagner as stage manager and Katie Bishop as assistant stage manager. Set design is by Judd Vermillion, costumes by Diane Royce-Smith and Kevin Nixon, lighting by Nicholas Boland, and sound by Jeffrey Brown.

Updated VK Garage Lobby

The performances of “Bombshells” will be the first opportunity for the public to see the newly renovated VK Garage Theater lobby. The renovation includes a new concessions bar that opens an hour before curtain time. The lobby was designed by Ken Harris, with additional support from Frank Bertagnolli, David Havill Brown, Theresa and Michael Holden, Lynn Niles, Alex Starovic, William Tatsch, and Kit and Linda Werlein. The H.E. Butt Foundation donated a reclaimed bar. The theater will also feature themed cocktails by Omakase Hospitality, with a special beverage menu for Valentine’s Day weekend.

Opening Night Dinner

P2K is offering an “Opening Night Dinner” in the Cailloux Theater Lobby for $69 per person, which includes a ticket to the show. The dinner, catered by Rails, A Cafe at the Depot, includes salad, entree, dessert, coffee, and wine. Dinner service begins at 6 p.m. Reservations are required by calling (830) 896-9393.

Auditions for “Lost In Yonkers”

P2K will hold auditions for Neil Simon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “Lost In Yonkers,” on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2:30 p.m., and Monday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kit Werlein Annex Studio, adjacent to the Cailloux Theater at 910 Main Street. The play has roles for 3 women, 2 men, and 2 boys (ages 13 and 15). It is only necessary to attend one audition session. The play will be directed by P2K Executive Director Jeffrey Brown, with performances running from March 21 through April 6. Copies of the script are available to read at the Playhouse 2000 office inside the VK Garage Theater.

Youth Auditions for “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood”

Auditions for the P2K Youth Theater production of “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” will be held on Monday, March 3, and Tuesday, March 4, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Werlein Annex Studio. The production will cast 14 to 20 young actors between the ages of 8 and 18. Emily Olson will direct, assisted by Meg Ellisore-Traverso. Rehearsals begin March 17, with performances on May 2, 3, and 4 in the VK Garage Theater. An audition information packet is available at the Playhouse 2000 office or online.

Other Hill Country Theater News

Fredericksburg Theater Company is holding auditions for “Shrek, The Musical” on Feb. 1, 2 and 3 at 6:00 pm. They are also presenting “Peter And The Starcatcher,” with Justin (The Book of Will) Elliott as “Mrs. Bumbrake,” from Feb. 14 through March 2.

The HCAF Point Theatre will present “Dear Jack, Dear Louise” from Feb. 14 to March 2.

Boerne Community Theater will host auditions for “The Mouse Trap” on Feb. 23 and 24 at 7:00 pm.
