Cervantes drops 6 3-pointers at McMurry to help lift Mountaineers past McMurry 

Schreiner shot 57.8% from the field and connected on 10 of 18 three-point attempts.

ABILENE — Beau Cervantes scored 24 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Schreiner University to a 101-84 victory over McMurry on Friday at Kimbrell Arena.

The Mountaineers (11-5) pulled away in the second half, outscoring the War Hawks 59-41 after trailing 43-42 at halftime. Kamden Ross added a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Dylan Mackey contributed 16 points and six assists for Schreiner.

Jalen Cherry led McMurry (3-11) with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Matt Pena scored 12 points, and Kino Thompson added 13 points off the bench for the War Hawks.

Schreiner shot 57.8% from the field and connected on 10 of 18 three-point attempts. The Mountaineers held their largest lead of 23 points with 1:07 remaining when they went ahead 99-76.

McMurry kept the game close through the first half, leading by as many as five points early. The teams exchanged the lead 15 times and were tied seven times before Schreiner took control after intermission.
