Dallas sweeps Schreiner softball in doubleheader

Schreiner showed offensive promise in game two with 12 hits, including five doubles.

The University of Dallas softball team swept a doubleheader against Schreiner University on Thursday afternoon in Irving, Texas, winning 10-4 in the opener and rallying for an 11-3 victory in game two.

In the first game, Dallas (2-5, 2-3) overcame an early deficit after Schreiner (1-11, 0-8) put up four runs in the third inning. The Crusaders responded with a four-run fifth inning and another four runs in the sixth to pull away. Kristiana Guerra (1-0) earned the win in relief, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings while striking out three. Madison Carda and Emma Sherman delivered key hits for Dallas, with Sherman’s double driving in two runs during the sixth-inning rally.

The nightcap saw Schreiner take an early 2-0 lead through four innings behind strong pitching from Anyssia Mendoza, who struck out eight Dallas batters through 4.2 innings. However, the Crusaders’ offense erupted late once again, scoring three runs in the fifth inning to take their first lead at 3-2. Dallas then broke the game open with an eight-run sixth inning, highlighted by Carda’s three-run double.

Ava Trevino (1-2) earned the win in game two for Dallas, allowing just two earned runs over four innings, while SunnyDale Thies recorded her first save with two innings of relief. MacKenzie Flocke had three hits in the second game to lead the Crusaders’ 12-hit attack.

Despite the losses, Schreiner showed offensive promise in game two with 12 hits, including five doubles. Brinley Smith and Kendall Lippold each had two hits for the Mountaineers in the nightcap.

The sweep improves Dallas to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Schreiner falls to 1-11 overall and 0-8 in conference action. Both games were played in front of 90 fans at the University of Dallas.
