Edmondson announces departure from Peterson Health after 5 years

“Peterson Health is a highly respected and well-known entity in healthcare. I have no doubt that we will attract many qualified applicants,” Houdeshell said.

In a surprise move, Cory Edmondson, the president and CEO of Peterson Health, will leave the health system next year to become the new president and CEO at United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls, Texas. Edmondson has been with Peterson Health since May 2019.

“This was one of the hardest decisions of my life, and I wasn’t actively seeking a change,” Edmondson said. “I always said I would retire here unless God had other plans for me. This opportunity came at a time when my family is growing; Angie and I will be welcoming our first grandchild in February. This new role positions us much closer to her and all our children, making it hard to ignore the benefits. I firmly believe God has a plan for all of us, and after much prayer and discussion with my family, I know this is the right decision for us.”

Peterson Health Board President TomHoudeshell said the health system will establish a CEO Search Committee and hire a firm to conduct a national search.

“Peterson Health is a highly respected and well-known entity in healthcare. I have no doubt that we will attract many qualified applicants,” Houdeshell said.

During Edmondson’s tenure, Peterson developed new service lines, acquired land and property for future growth, and opened a new state-of-the-art surgery center, among many other achievements.

“His visionary and inspirational leadership has led to tremendous growth and positivity since his arrival,” Houdeshell said. “We aim to continue the strategy and growth mindset he has established within the culture at Peterson. The Board of Directors is proud of him and his achievements,”

Edmondson will lead a United Regional Health Care System that is an independent, not-for-profit health organization that operates a 300-bed, Level II Trauma medical center. It serves nine counties in north-central Texas and has a primary service area of more than 135,000 residents, with a secondary service area exceeding 81,000.

“Peterson Health has a bright future ahead,” Edmondson said. “We just celebrated our 75th anniversary as a private, independent healthcare system. No matter who succeeds me as President and CEO, the Leadership Team is well-equipped to advance Peterson to the next level and thrive for another 75 years. I’m proud of what this organization has achieved in such a short time, and they continue to meet—and often exceed—our mission of providing exceptional, compassionate, patient-centered care.”

Edmondson’s last day at Peterson Health will be February 7, 2025.
