Emily Curry: Nov. 20, 1945-Aug. 31, 2025
She was deeply devoted to her community and served in numerous leadership roles with the Kerrville Host Lions Club, where she received many honors and contributed greatly.
Emily Curry, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 31, 2025, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She was 79 years old.
Emily was born on November 20, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, to Marvin and Ninon Johnson. As the daughter of a military family, her childhood was one of adventure and discovery, with time spent living in Japan, Germany, Alaska, and across the United States. These experiences instilled in her a lifelong appreciation for culture, community, and connection.
Emily’s professional life was rich and meaningful. She worked at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs before settling in Kerrville, Texas, in the early 1990s, where she lived for the remainder of her life. In Kerrville, Emily retired from The Adult and Community Education Center for the Kerrville Independent School District. She was deeply devoted to her community and served in numerous leadership roles with the Kerrville Host Lions Club, where she received many honors and contributed greatly.
A woman of many talents, Emily was also a gifted gourmet cook and co-authored several volumes of The Four Ingredient Cookbook, with dear friend Linda Coffee, which delighted countless families with its creativity and simplicity.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Ninon Johnson; her brothers, Patrick and Michael Johnson; and her sons, Christopher Bryant Hix and Jerry Charles “Charlie” Hix Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Curry; his daughter, Shelley Curry; her daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Walter Stanley; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hix; sisters-in-law, Sherri Curry (and her husband, John Spreen) and Kristi Curry; stepdaughter, Ashli Guild; stepson Matt Cale; grandchildren Harlee, Brianna, and Hunther Hix, Chloe Stanley, Brittany Underwood, Tyler, Tanner, and Trevor Guild; and great-grandchildren Liam and Charlie Underwood and Denver and Savannah Guild. First Cousins: Johnny, Glo, Punky and Joann Garoni.
Second Cousins: Jana Cottrell, Jennifer Garoni, Heather Cacurak, Chris Ruffo, Marc Garoni and Laura Garoni.
Third cousins: T J and Jason Hipsher, Shelby Faulkner, Mason and Emma Cacurak, Audrey Dickman, Jake Ruffo and Mia Garoni.
Emily will be remembered for her generosity, her commitment to service, her culinary gifts, and the warmth she shared with everyone she met. Her favorite saying was always be humble and kind. Her legacy of love, laughter, and community will live on through her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. A celebration of Emily’s life will be held on September 27 at Rails A Cafe At the Depot.
