Flood advisory until 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday
The advisory replaces an earlier flash flood warning as rainfall continues but has become lighter, according to the 8:12 a.m. alert from the National Weather Service office in Austin and San Antonio.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Edwards, Kerr and Real counties in the Texas Hill Country, effective until 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The advisory replaces an earlier flash flood warning as rainfall continues but has become lighter, according to the 8:12 a.m. alert from the National Weather Service office in Austin and San Antonio.
Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms was causing minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, with rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain had fallen as of 8:11 a.m., with up to an additional inch expected.
Areas likely to experience flooding include Leakey, Tuff, Lost Maples State Natural Area, Prade Ranch and Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area.
The National Weather Service urged residents to avoid flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Officials also warned people to stay away from river banks and culverts, which can become unstable and unsafe during flooding.
“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the advisory stated.
The flood advisory is the 173rd issued this year by the Austin/San Antonio National Weather Service office.
