Holiday cheer, live music and community gatherings fill week ahead

The calendar features more than 50 events across seven days, ranging from support groups and wellness programs to holiday markets and live entertainment, offering something for nearly every interest and age group.

From legendary country music to Christmas pageants, Kerr County residents will find no shortage of ways to celebrate the season and connect with neighbors in the week ahead.

Music scene heats up

Western swing legends Asleep at the Wheel headline Friday night’s entertainment at The Arcadia Live, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the main act taking the stage at 8:30 p.m. The West Texas Exiles open the show at 7:30 p.m.

Other notable musical acts include Dave Kemp at Cafe at the Ridge on Friday, Mike Blakely at Lazy Days Canteen at Roddy Tree on Saturday and multiple performances by local favorite Susan Herndon throughout the week.

Holiday festivities continue

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever runs Friday through Sunday at VK Garage Theater, with five total performances based on Barbara Robinson’s beloved book. Saturday features both matinee and evening shows.

Santa makes multiple appearances this weekend, including Saturday sessions at The Arcadia Live and Museum of Western Art. The Arcadia offers two showings of “The Grinch” — at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. — with Santa appearances before each screening.

A Community Christmas Party takes place Wednesday evening at Doyle Community Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Markets offer last-minute shopping

The Last Minute Holiday Market runs Friday and Saturday at Kerr Arts and Cultural Center starting at 10 a.m. both days.

Weekend farmers markets continue their regular schedules, with Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market at 301 Junction Highway and Heart of the Hills Farmers Market at 741 Water St., both running 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Flood recovery continues

Wednesday marks another Found on the Guadalupe Reunification Day, offering appointments for those seeking to recover items lost in the July 4 flood. Appointments can be scheduled at found-project.com.

Library, nature programs packed

Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library hosts daily programming, including story times, craft sessions and a Friends of the Library Book Sale on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Riverside Nature Center continues its educational offerings with the Audubon Christmas Bird Count NEd Talk on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and multiple other programs throughout the week.

Support groups for various needs meet throughout the week, including grief support, caregiver support and specialized groups for parents of children with special needs. Most are free and open to those who need them.

Author

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
