Holiday Lighted Parade highlights busy week of Kerr County events

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Kerrville. Road closures and route maps are available at kerrvilletx.gov.

Kerrville’s annual Holiday Lighted Parade will kick off the holiday season Saturday evening, headlining a week filled with community gatherings, outdoor activities and live entertainment across Kerr County.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Kerrville. Road closures and route maps are available at kerrvilletx.gov.

The week begins Monday with free admission to Kerrville Schreiner Park for National Hiking Day. Park staff will lead a guided hike at 10 a.m. from Trailhead 5.

The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library will host multiple events throughout the week, including story times, book clubs and a GIS Day celebration Wednesday. The library’s Friends group will hold a book sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday’s Veterans Thanksgiving at the Hill Country Veterans Center begins at noon.

Schreiner University’s theater department will present “Blood Wedding” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Hanszen Theater. Seat reservations are available through the university’s Facebook page.

Live music venues across the county will feature performances throughout the week. Micky and the Motorcars will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at The Arcadia Live.

The Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market and Heart of the Hills Farmers Market will operate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at their regular locations.

Multiple support groups will meet throughout the week, including the PALS Support Group for parents and caregivers of children with special needs at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Peterson Hospice and Home Care Building.

The Rogue Skein will host the Yarn Adventure Truck from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, along with several fiber arts classes.

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
