Johnny Walker Finch: May 17, 1938-April 22, 2026
Working on his land outside of Kerrville was where he spent a lot of time and if not there, you could certainly catch him meeting up with buddies for coffee at various cafes between Kerrville and Center Point.
Johnny Walker Finch, 87, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Kerrville.
He was born on May 17, 1938, in Monahans, Texas; grew up in Center Point, later graduated from Center Point High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University.
He built a long and meaningful career with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, starting at Fort Leaton then Fort Griffin, wrapping up his career and retiring while at Stephen F. Austin State Park in San Felipe, Texas. This was also the place he raised his family.
In his younger years, Johnny enjoyed many days of rodeoing and had a deep love for the Western lifestyle. He also loved the game of golf and formed many lasting friendships on the course that he treasured throughout his life. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Juliette (Rathbone) Finch.
He is survived by his two children, Andree Finch Moynihan and Boyd Finch. Andree and her husband, Bryan Moynihan, have one daughter, Kennedee. Boyd and his wife, Dawn Finch, have two sons, Jiles and his wife, Mary Katherine, and Britton. He was married to Sharon Arnecke Finch for 25 years and they remained friends throughout his life.
He is also survived by his sister, Donna Adams, and his brother, Laird Finch and wife, Myrna as well as nieces and nephews.
Johnny (Pop) will be remembered for a great sense of humor, his generosity and steady presence in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives.

A small memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 2pm at Grimes Funeral Chapel, Kerrville, Texas.
