Baubles and Beads, once again, proves to be an emotional night for those who have suffered through breast cancer.

Hill Country Community Journal Publisher Tammy Prout, a two-time cancer survivor, was the night’s keynote speaker at the annual Baubles and Beads fundraiser to stop breast cancer at the Hill Country Youth Event Center.

“I refused to feel sorry for myself and I refused to let cancer win, ” said Prout, the Hill Country Community Journal publisher. Prout’s first cancer fight came in 2004; it was at that time she decided to start the weekly newspaper. Her second fight came just last year.

“I still refuse to let cancer steal anymore of my joy,” Prout said. “Anymore of my confidence and anymore of my choices.”

The heartfelt speech, which included a nod to her decision to run for office, drew plenty of tears and a standing ovation from the more than 300 attendees.
