Schreiner women fall behind early in rout against visiting Hardin-Simmons

The Schreiner University women’s basketball team dropped its fifth consecutive game Saturday night, falling 81-49 to visiting Hardin-Simmons at Stephens Family Arena.
The Mountaineers (1-9) trailed from the opening tip, falling behind 20-10 after one quarter and never recovering against the Cowboys’ balanced offensive attack.
Tamia Moody led Schreiner with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Lynnashia Brooks added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sierra Schaefer contributed eight points off the bench.
The Mountaineers struggled with ball security, committing 22 turnovers that Hardin-Simmons converted into easy baskets. Schreiner shot 36.4% from the field and just 25.9% from three-point range, connecting on seven of 27 attempts from beyond the arc.
Caroline Croft paced the Cowboys with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Jacqueline Berry added 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Hardin-Simmons shot 50% from the field as a team.
The Cowboys extended their lead to 37-21 at halftime and pushed the margin to 62-39 after three quarters before cruising to the 32-point victory.
